Adaptability

“The goal of a designer is to listen, observe, understand, sympathize, empathize, synthesize, and glean insights that enable him or her to make the invisible visible.”— Hillman Curtis

  • Client management 15 years partnering with guests through the decision-making process. Communication with clients can be difficult, something so simple can have many meanings, knowing how to sort through and prioritize information is key.

  • Team building eight teams over ten years, and I’ve learned something from every single one of them. Good collaboration is a sign of a healthy project, but most people won’t share if they don’t feel supported should the idea fail to meet expectations. Creating a safe environment is priority number one.

  • Empathy if we don’t understand the users’ needs and desires, it’s hard to truly create a product that accomplishes the users’ goals. Being empathic starts by being a good observer – watch people’s actions.

Leadership Through Empathy and Collaboration

With over 15 years of experience partnering with clients and leading teams, I bring a blend of empathy, collaboration, and mastery of tools to drive successful outcomes.

Fostering Understood Needs Through Empathy

Empathy is key to truly understanding users' needs and desires to create products that accomplish their goals. I build empathy through:

  • Observing Users: Watching people's actions and listening to understand motivations.

  • Client Partnerships: 15 years collaborating with guests through decision-making processes. Communication can have many meanings - sorting through information to identify priorities is crucial.

  • Perspective Taking: Putting myself in the shoes of users and team members to understand their reality.

Leading Teams Through Collaboration and Safety

I've built 8 teams over 10 years, learning from each one. Fostering collaboration starts with psychological safety. I create safe, productive environments by:

  • Supporting Risks: Encouraging ideas and removing fear of failure through feedback and iteration.

  • Active Listening: Giving team members time and space to share perspectives.

  • Fostering Ownership: Empowering teams to shape processes to fit their needs.

  • Welcoming Diversity: Seeking out differences in thought and background that spur innovation.
